Dear Parents and Patients of Pediatric Affiliates of Hampton Roads,
After 35 years of pediatric practice, Dr. Robert Lehman and Dr. Nancy Wick will be retiring from pediatric medicine on December 31, 2024. Thank you for choosing us to be your child’s doctor. December 31 will be the last day that patients will be seen in our office. This is a very difficult decision for both of us. During 3-1/2 decades, we have attempted to give concierge pediatric care to all of our patients during this time. We are very proud that we are the ONLY pediatric group that has only Physicians who see patients without “Physician Extenders” (i.e. Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants). This model has been costly, but we felt very strongly that only a Doctor should always see your child. In addition, our guiding mantra is that if your child was sick, we ALWAYS would have an appointment for a sick child on the SAME DAY. We were the last general pediatric group to see patients in CHKD until hospitalists were used. Until last year, we went to 3 hospitals to see newborn patients. We also are the only group that does not use a Nurse Triage line for on call issues. If you ever called after hours, you always spoke with one of the physicians, not a screening nurse.
We have been honored to care for your newborn, toddler, child, adolescent and young adult. By your putting your child in our hands, we have been the benefactors of the greatest compliment that a parent can give-entrusting your child-and we do not take that honor lightly.
Important Dates and What to Expect During Our Transition
We will be winding down the Practice at our Grayson Road location until May of 2025 but this is ONLY for administrative work and paperwork such as Medical Record Transfers, School Physical forms, etc. We will not be able to see any patients, or do any vaccines, procedures or tests after December 31, 2024. We will however continue to refill prescriptions until February 28, 2025. After that, our Malpractice Insurance will not allow any other medications to be filled. Please make sure that you have coverage for any chronic medications after February 28, 2025.
How to Transfer Medical Records with Ease
As a courtesy, we will ELECTRONICALLY transfer records to any physician you choose FREE OF CHARGE, but we will first need a SIGNED Medical Record Release Form which may be found on our website - Click to Download Medical Release Form. Fill this form out and fax to 757-312-8123 or send to info@doc4kids.com. If you wish to have a PAPER COPY of the medical record, then the fees stated in the downloadable document above will need to be paid before we copy the record to paper.
After May, you may call our office and leave a message or send us a message at info@doc4kids.com. We will attempt to answer calls as quickly as possible.
There are many pediatric groups in the area. Many are practices that are owned by CHKD or Sentara. We suggest that you reach out to one of the practices in your area to continue pediatric care for your child.
